Community Outreach

Community Outreach Committee
Outreach is a huge part of Good Shepherd. We contribute throughout the year to local, national, and world-wide ministries. Efforts include financial contributions to HELP of Summerville, Meals on Wheels of Summerville, Home of Hope and Hope’s House (local homeless shelters), collections of goods for Murray UMC Community Pantry, disaster relief to ERD, collections of Christmas toys & school supplies for Dorchester Children’s Center.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Good Shepherd joins with several Summerville churches each year to provide Thanksgiving meals for hundreds of local families in need.
Backpack Buddies
Organized by St. George’s Episcopal Church, volunteers pack weekend meals for children in need at 6 local schools.
Reading Buddies
Volunteers work with kindergarten and 2nd grade children at Spann and Summerville Elementary Schools, helping with letter identification & sounds and later reading small books.
Community Pantry – Murray United Methodist Church
Good Shepherd holds monthly food drives for this important community resource.
HELP of Summerville
Through financial donations, Good Shepherd supports HELP, which provides emergency services to Lower Dorchester County residents.
Meals on Wheels of Summerville
Several Good Shepherd members volunteer for this important service which delivers hot and healthy meals to homebound members of our community. Every 5th Sunday, the loose offering collection is designated for Meals on Wheels.
