Clergy and Staff

The Rev. Dow Sanderson, Rector

Dow joined the Church of the Good Shepherd staff in 2017, three weeks after retiring as Rector of Church of the Holy Communion, Charleston. Ordained in 1986, he has served all but two years of his ministry in the Diocese of South Carolina.

Dow and his wife Fiona have two grown sons, Noah (and his wife Sarah) and Nick, all of whom live in Charleston. Dow describes his time at Good Shepherd as a blessing and a joy, and, like all of us, eagerly anticipates the building of our permanent Church home on North Cedar Street.

Associate Priest

The Rev. David Hudspeth

As our Associate Priest, Father David Hudspeth assists with worship services and pastoral needs, and he chairs our Adult Christian Education committee. Fr. David is also a Chaplain for Roper St. Francis Healthcare and is assigned to Berkeley Hospital in Summerville.

Prior to ministry, Fr. David served in the US Air Force and retired in 2004. He then went to seminary as a Baptist and came out as an Anglican. From 2010 to 2016, he pastored a church in Michigan. After returning to his wife’s hometown of Charleston, Fr. David accepted a position as a chaplain resident for Roper St. Francis and was subsequently hired as a staff chaplain.

It was during his chaplain studies that Fr. David felt pulled to the theology and ministries of the Episcopal Church. In 2021, Fr. David and his family first visited the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Upon approval from the Presiding Bishop’s office, The Rt. Rev. Ruth Woodliff-Stanley received Fr. David as a priest in the diocese on August 27, 2025.

Fr. David and his wife, Elizabeth, have two adult children. They enjoy travelling, visiting family, and reading, especially when they are able to do so from a beach chair.
